I’VE BUILT MY OWN LITTLE EMPIRE ON SOCIAL MEDIA
Romy Noach - Content Creative at GoSpooky

WHO ARE YOU, AND WHAT DO YOU DO IN ONE SENTENCE?
My name is Romy Noach, I am currently a 25-year-old content creative at GoSpooky, and I build my own little empire on social media. But what haven’t I done?
HOW DID YOU START IN THIS INDUSTRY?
I started with TikTok during the pandemic while I was studying theatre. Soon after I grew my audience, I got picked up by a media company, and since then, my life has been a fucking rollercoaster.
HOW DOES A TYPICAL WEEK LOOK LIKE FOR YOU?
I’d like to prioritise my well-being, so my mornings and evenings are sacred. Every day is different at work. Meetings with clients and colleagues. Ideation and shoot days. Sometimes I see a colleague in a mermaid suit while I’m going to grab some lunch, you know… the usual.
WHAT’S THE BEST ADVICE YOU’VE EVER RECEIVED?
The best advice came from my high school teacher. He said, “Beauty is an opinion, not a fact.” That is something I try to live by, especially in content creation. To succeed, you need to create fearlessly. And for me to do that, I remind myself: people have opinions. That doesn’t mean they’re stating facts. Just saying.
WHO DO YOU LOOK UP TO CAREER-WISE?
Bretman Rock, obviously. Bretman inspired me to be my most authentic self, to trust that Greek yoghurt is the best face mask ever, and to believe that even if you start as “nothing,” you can make yourself into “something.”
HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR CREATIVE VOICE TODAY, AND HOW WAS YOUR JOURNEY TO FINDING IT?
Can I cuss? If so: “no fucks given.” I’ve been through three burnouts already, and if there is one thing I’ve learned, it’s that I shouldn’t care too much when it comes to work (if my creative lead reads this, no, you didn’t). Still a work in progress, though, I know how much of a softie I can be. What can I say? I’m charming like that.
HOW DOES YOUR CREATIVE PROCESS DIFFER WHEN YOU WORK ON YOUR PERSONAL BRAND VS CLIENT PROJECTS?
Okay, this is where the “caring too much” part comes in. When it comes down to clients, I want to make sure they’re happy and that I understand them as much as possible. It’s important to find a balance between their wants and needs and my own creative vision. On my own platform, though, I can do whatever I want. It’s way more personal: I talk with people directly, and am only responsible for my own brand.
HAS WORKING AT AN AGENCY TAUGHT YOU ANYTHING THAT CHANGED HOW YOU APPROACH CONTENT CREATION?
Yes, and this one is simple: don’t overthink, just create.
BEING AN ONLINE PERSONALITY CAN LOOK GLAMOROUS, BUT WHAT’S THE SIDE OF IT THAT MOST PEOPLE NEVER SEE?
That if you don’t guard yourself, your peace, your boundaries and your bank account. People will walk over you. Brands, agencies and whoever else. Grow that backbone. And if you can’t, life will grow it for you.
HOW DO YOU DEAL WITH CREATIVE BLOCKS OR OFF-DAYS, ESPECIALLY WHEN YOUR JOB DEPENDS ON BEING “ON” ALL THE TIME?
Talk to people and look closely. Inspiration is never far.
WHAT’S SOMETHING YOU LOVE ABOUT YOUR JOB THAT DOESN’T ALWAYS TRANSLATE ON CAMERA OR ONLINE?
Helping and connecting with people. I love it when I can inspire or help people online with the tiniest things. From a Greek yoghurt mask to making them feel less alone.
WHAT CHALLENGES HAVE YOU NOTICED EMERGING FOR CONTENT CREATIVES?
The algorithm is a… yeah. Especially when it comes to TikTok. From my perspective, it keeps shifting. And right now? It’s insane. They’re basically using a reward system. If you post every day, you get pulled into the algorithm. If you don’t, you lose. I think it’s pretty toxic. We all need a break sometimes. Sure, it’s different when you’re a big platform. But even then… *dramatic music* You’ll never really know.
WHAT TIPS WOULD YOU GIVE TO NEW CREATIVES IN THE INDUSTRY AND TO ONES APPLYING FOR JOBS AT CREATIVE AGENCIES?
Start creating for yourself and use it as your portfolio. Don’t focus too much on numbers, you’re not a strategist. If you can show people your most authentic self through content, you’re in. It only takes one other person to believe in you besides yourself.
