Volt Europa is looking for a Communications Trainee (NL) in Den Haag • Internship
Posted 4 jul 2026 • Applications closed on 12 jul 2026
Volt Europa is looking for a trainee to translate the complexities of European politics into compelling social media content and build the online profiles of Anna Strolenberg and Reinier Lanschot. As an Online Communications Trainee you will be creating video content, building an online community, and managing a whole range of social platforms. We work across most social media platforms, including Instagram, Linkedin, Facebook, Bluesky and TikTok.
You will work directly with Anna Strolenberg and Reinier Lanschot and their communication team. You will do what the comms team does - no coffee runs or data entry. We are looking for candidates who can work seamlessly in the team, while taking on challenges and projects of their own. Candidates should be able to write video scripts and captions, shoot and edit videos, and develop their own content ideas. You should be prepared to receive and implement feedback both from the comms team as well as Anna and Reinier directly. Support, guidance, and mentoring will always be available, but we also expect you to be able to work unassisted and start your own initiatives.
We want someone who lives and breathes social media, someone who can juggle numerous roles and responsibilities, and has knowledge of broader European politics.
Volt stands for a united and federal Europe, where everyone has equal opportunities to fulfil their unique potential. We strive to achieve the highest human, environmental, social, and technological development together. We are a pan-European political movement with 200 elected representatives across Europe, including 5 members of the European Parliament, over 30,000 members and hundreds of volunteers who work hard to make our vision a reality.
Volt is an inclusive movement that wants to provide space for everyone to thrive. We believe the power of diversity achieves better results for our society at large. We can only be the inclusive political movement we aspire to be, if we represent different voices and perspectives in our society. Your skin colour, gender identity, disabilities, sexual orientation or religious belief do not matter. You are welcome in our organisation, and we want to work together with you to create a better Europe for everyone.
Create content for various social media platforms which includes but is not limited to
Explainer videos for various Volt policy positions/decisions
Fun meme-style videos with a kernel of Volt truth in them
Longer-format LinkedIn posts that go deeper on specific topics
Quick reaction posts in response to breaking news
Creating simple still images as Instagram posts or video covers
Ongoing development of the broader comms/social media strategy of the MEPs
Tracking and recording insights from social media platforms to give us the means of making data-led decisions
Come up with ideas to improve our outreach and media presence
Research shows that (oftentimes) female candidates only apply when they meet 100% of the requirements, while male candidates do so when they meet just 60%. We explicitly encourage everyone to apply: you don’t have to tick every box to apply. We also consider your potential and motivation! We value equity of opportunity and do not expect a trainee to arrive with 10 years of working experience.
A curious and creative mind with the ability to break down complex topics and issues into accessible social content
Sense of initiative to start and carry out own projects
Enthusiasm for Europe, the idea of European unity and an ability to work across Europe with different national Volt teams
Experience in video and photo editing with tools such as CapCut and Canva. Anything else would be a plus!
Knowledge of the latest TikTok and Instagram trends
Strong and demonstrable English writing and speaking skills (Dutch writing and speaking skills would be a plus but are not a key requirement)
Please note that this role requires residency in Brussels or a willingness to relocate
Nice to have:
Experience in marketing, public relations, journalism, design, production, and community management
Experience working in a political context, either directly with the political entity or through various projects
Monthly gross salary of €1.675 (highest possible trainee allowance from the European Parliament)
First-hand experience in the office of a Volt Europa MEP.
A space to create, grow and develop your ideas - if you have a great idea for a piece of content we will make it!
A fun, young, and international team.
Does this opportunity excite you? We want to hear from you!
We are excited to read your application! If you are interested, please complete the application form before 23:59 (Brussels time) on 12.07.2026. Please note that you can only apply to one of our EP Traineeships.
We aim to finalise the interviews & selection procedure around mid-July, with a start date foreseen for September 2026 (Traineeship duration: 5 months). Unsuccessful candidates will be duly notified.
Please note: whilst we would love to retain every great trainee, budgetary constraints for the Volt delegation mean there is unfortunately no pathway to offer continued employment after the traineeship. We prefer to be upfront about this from the start.
Any questions about the vacancy, or if you have any trouble accessing the form, please feel free to reach out to Covadonga.solaresmorales@europarl.europa.eu
Only a Europe that acts together can solve our shared challenges. National parties are reaching their limits. To counteract populist promises and give a home to all Europeans, we created Volt: the first pan-European party. We strive to empower people to change politics and unlock Europe’s potential. Active in already more than 30 countries, we encourage citizens to rethink and shape politics in their cities, in their countries and across borders in Europe.
We are pan-European, pragmatic and progressive. While striving to promote diversity, we come together because of our shared goals and values. We ask the necessary questions and make realistic proposals to solve pan-European challenges.
